Be kind to your vessel

Hey what's up? I read a comment online this week from a young woman who said she was planning to start drinking heavily again. In fact, she said her health had gotten worse since she quit almost a year ago. Now, it was 2 a.m. when she wrote this, and she admitted she was going through something. But still, my curiosity got the best of me, so I checked the replies, hoping someone would offer clarity, maybe challenge that mindset.

Most didn't. So I offer this, I know the opposite to be true. Giving up drinking and other substances didn't just improve my body, it gave me something more important. Clarity. Clarity I now require for the path I walk. I was fortunate my guide activated when I stopped looking outside myself for what was broken inside. But you don't need a guide to use common sense.

Try running a race or drinking alcohol instead of water. Let me know how far you get. If that made you pause, good. That means your common sense is still working. Alcohol gives you plenty of reasons to look outside of yourself, to numb, to avoid, to deny. It may help you get through another day or the end of a week, but it will not help you move forward.

It will not help you walk the path that only you can walk. So I'll leave you with this. You can treat your vessel like a temple and show it the respect it deserves. Or you can treat it like a tavern and deal with the unruly drunk patrons who can't hold their liquor. Be kind to your vessel, and they will take care of you.
